Grinzing lies in the northwest part of Vienna and is the largest part of Doebling, the 19th district of Vienna. The name "Grinzing" is a name that means "of the people who belong to a man named Grinzo". Many German words ending in "ing" are indicators of membership to a Sippe. The first appearance of the name Grinzing occurred in 1114, when it was called Grinzigan. The village of Grinzing was founded in the 11th century by the family Grunzing. Matthias Corvinus ravaged the village in 1484 and the Turks caused a lot of damage in 1529. In 1604, a large fire burned the village to the ground, and in 1683 the Turks destroyed the newly rebuilt town. Grinzing was known for their wine industry and for their Heurigens, which draw numerous tourists each year to this day. Heavy bus tourism and the diminishing wine industry has caused the Heurigens to lose some of their charm, and the Viennese seldom frequent the Heurigens. To repair their image, in 2005, the Döbling Green party politicians began a competition to inspire ideas to calm their traffic problems and improve their quality of life.

Fantastic view of this lovely little street, I think the shot will be perfect without the glass on the left.

a lovely capture Sabine and it reminds me so much of wandering around Salzburg away from the city!

What a quaint looking place you've captured with wonderful composition and I especially like the shadows that the trees are throwing out. Very well done Sabine. Thanks for this one.

After a bit of an absence, partly vacation but mostly tax season...busy for bookkeeping businesses... I'm glad to be back out here with at least 'some' regularity. I've missed everyone and am glad to have a little more time again.

Sabine - An outstanding shot in all ways - the sharpness/colors/shadows - everything. Into my favorites for sure and to my desktop file. Glad to see you are still smiling

I am sorry that this weekend I didn't get to comment on all the photos. I took a weekend trip and when I got back there were plenty. Hopefully the photo's I took and am posting will somehow make up for it. Smile Steve

Well Sabine, that made some interesting reading, it apears to be a lovely and quiet little town, but the text shows how you can be fooled, raided by busloads of tourists, Turks who cold not stay at home, you name it, quiet some history here !
