This was an unusual photo for me, more in that it was (A) a shot of a train, and (B) comes across more as an oil painting than anything else. Taken with a telephoto lens with no special settings. The final photo has not been touched up at all - the blurring effect is due to the heat over roughly a quarter of a mile stretch between myself and the locomotive.

Unusual and outstanding photo, Bob. Great idea. Your shot reveals that the focus is not always top importance. Being untouched up makes this photo more valuable for me. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent. As the son of a 40-year railroad engineer, I especially appreciate train photos, and this one captures the unbearable heat around tracks in the summer (I worked on a section gang one summer while in college).

Interesting effect. By using a telephoto lens you've shown us what often is too small for the eye to appreciate. I also like how the engine's color bursts out of a generally neutral environment.
