When this monster comes roaring at you at 80 MPH you cannot miss it. It Shakes the ground and bellows smoke and steam. It's whistle blows and you know a 4-6-6-4 is on the way. This is an excursion train that runs from Denver to Cheyenne Wyoming occasionally. They stop on the trip to let everyone off for a run-by photo op. The train backs up for a couple miles then comes roaring back for the photos. It's really a fun trip for someone like me who is a railroad nut, according to my wife Patti.

As a guy who just loved model railroading in my youth this is a pleasure to view. Wonderful image of one of these "old iron horses". Nice to know they're still thrilling people today. That photo op run sounds like a hoot. Glad you put this one up Chuck.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

Well, I never thought this was what was going to pop up when I read the title. You probably don't know it, but I am crazy over steam engines. I remember them as a kid when visiting grandma. There was a rail yard within view of her house and I would watch those trains for hours. I'll never forget the time I was in my truck approaching a crossing gate in Indianapolis when the gate came down and I had to stop. I had my window down and I then I heard it-the unmistakable sound of an approaching steam locamotive going somewhere. What a sight. I cried as it went by. Thks for posting this. Can you get some more shots? Pat

The good ol' Fasioned Railroad picture. This is great. Now all we need is a horse, and masked man and a good ol' stick up.

great shot.

Look how close of a photo you managed to get Chuck. I really like the clothes the conductor has on too.How great it is that they stop for people to take photos. Thanks for sharing one of your loves with us.

I just love theses old monsters Chuck, grew up close to the railroad back in the forties sometimes they would stop at night to drop some cars off, i can still hear them chugging real hard to get going again. You have a great gallery by the way, Best wishes, Dwight.
