Photo taken from Point Roberts, Washington. The water is the Strait of Georgia... the sky is simply magnificent... ISO 100 13s F3.5 Focal Length 18mm A-Dep And taken about 3-4 minutes after Believe It or not! Just before 22:30 when I packed it in! Strange... I had gone across the border to get a shot of 'boats', didn't like the mass of poles stickin' up... but still got some poles (leftover from a dock, I suppose) in my pic!? Edit: The only thing done to this pic was down-sizing to meet the restriction of a 3200 pixel side!

Ohhhh I've been to the Straights of Georgia. I love it up there. I've been camping in the San Juans too. Your photo is absolutely beautiful! I had my first Ostrich Burger up that way. See you when I get back my friend!! Verena

Done! But stickin' with the original. By reducing the size of the dark area, the line of horizon becomes too centered (it doesn't bother me but will others!). I had cropped from the top to 2000 as 3200x2000 is perfect for 1680x1050 monitors. I do like that it then fills my screen but both please my eye!... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :o) Thanks for trying, Els! Oh... I will be using the cropped version for my viewing pleasure! :o)

Edit: Oops! I forgot to close the >. I could correct it here... but not in my PM. :o)

It will take some kind of luck to even show in this contest... There are at least 5-6 other images entered (at my last viewing a few days ago) that I do like very much! I am currently visiting friends and my in-law family back in Quebec so I will be quieter than usual for awhile.
Good luck to everyone entered and also all those who will enter the next contest! :o)

Congratulations on placing in the contest. Well-deserved for this perfectly composed and executed image. It must have been really hard for the judges. Frankly, I think this should have rated higher. anne =D

Critiquing art of any kind is utterly subjective. When I vote on your images, I look at several things. First, my initial gut reaction. Then, is it straight (if it should be); is the color correct or if intentionally saturated or desaturated, was it done properly and does it enhance the image; composition - if you intended a bulls-eye, unless it's an outstanding image that is really served by centering the subject, it'll get dinged; is the horizon dead center - again, unless there's an obvious reason that makes it a better photo, no points; is the subject interesting and uncluttered; is the image sharp; is the depth of field right for this composition, is there a catchlight in the creature's eye; would I hang this on my wall; is it an image I'd be proud to display; is it artistic or just a snapshot; does it move me; is there a message conveyed; is it documentary in nature and if so, does it tell the story in such a way it makes me want more. When I critique a photo in your gallery, I'm only suggesting what my subjective nature prefers. No need to defend your position if you like your image the way it is. If you give me constructive criticism on my pieces, I guarantee you I will take them to heart. I love to improve! Bring it on Caedians! Love, anne =D
