Here's another one...I'm not sure if this is the same flower from a different angle or not, there were so many in this meadow! I'd appreciate some feedback on this editing job...I made two layers of the same shot, then on the top layer I edited out all of the background, leaving the flower. Then, I put a pretty heavy gaussian blur onto the bottom layer. That's what makes it seem like it's glowing. Do you guys like it? Or are plain black backgrounds better like my last columbine? Thanks! -Laurel

Well, the flower with the black background was darker and bolder in hue than this one, so the black went well with it. This flower is more muted in hue and the pastel, blurred background seems to fit it better than a black would, so I think you did the best thing with both of them. Did that answer your question? Well, I tried. :)

laurel, i prefer the first columbine because i can see more of the background. it would be interesting to see the same gaussian blur on the first flower. this one is nice, don't get me wrong. i just wanted to give my opinion. jen

This is a beauty as well but I too like the other one better. It has more clarity and I think looks much prettier on the desktop. However, still a nice capture. Anita

i may not be the best person to comment, as i have a real love of a single flower against a black, or dark, background.. i like the other one best, but this one is certainly lovely as well..

Excellent job not only on the capture, but on the background. I prefer these kinds of backgrounds over the plain black ones. A little green always looks good with flower pics....well...at least in this case :) I guess you have to take it as it comes :)

It looks alright. Nice and dreamy. I personally prefer really crisp flower shots (I love the petal textures) .. I usually just process the background (if required) to underexpose and pop out the bloom.

a couple points ...

• as a photo, I like this better because of the more natural background .. I do gaussian blurs on some of my things, so I can't fault you for that .. I like the end result

• this is colorado's state flower, I lived there for 5 years and only saw one wilted version while out hiking

• when discussing a previous post, it's a good idea to provide a link .. ;o)

Saw this in the voting booth- lovely flower and excellent work with the background. Now I'll have to go check out all your new stuff, since I've been gone a while. :)
