Built in the X century on the ruins of an ancient Sabina fortress, after having been an impregnable rampart during the incursions of the Saracens and the Hungarians, the Castle was given in feud to Francesco Orsini at the end of the XIII century. Enlarged and reinforced, it was always more and more impregnable. The power of the Orsini family prospered for centuries within the walls of this castle, increasing the family influence in the events of Rome and the Papacy. Scene of courageous struggles during the Middle Ages, the Castle was reinforced many times with the addition of low keeps and a powerful cylindrical tower. Conquered by the Borgia and successively returned to the Orsini family, the Castle passed, after various ups and downs, in the hands of the Barberini and the Lante della Rovere. During the Risorgimento, in 1867, a unit of Garibaldini, led by Menotti Garibaldi, barricaded in the tower, resisting the assault of the papal troops. The battle was lost, but bearing witness to the episode are the bullet marks on the ancient walls of the terrace that dominates the village. Today is a luxurious hotel.

Great narrative and very nice composition, with colors of bricks, blue sky and curvy walls. As usual great details.

A beautiful spot! It seems a shame that it's a hotel and not a museum. But at least it's being cared for and used.
