Just going to jump in here with a thought or two, Ed. Hope you don't mind.
First, good evocative capture.
And well done in framing the man using the archway/doorway as 'natural' framing elements. Serves to keep your viewer's eyes focused and draws them in more so.
Caveats?
The vignetting.
Welllll ...
Since our eyes are typically drawn to the lighter or brighter areas of an image ... generally speaking ... I think/feel that in this creative instance they detract from the overall impact.
It is not the converse, that by the central portion being darker that in turn that area is highlighted or more attention is brought to it.
So ...
Nice post processing on the toning aspect, and perhaps the creative food for thought above might work towards that of an improvement?
Last words..
Very timeless feel to this one. And that ... is indeed a good good thing.
Ed - The title is so appropriate for this photo. I like the antique, light sepia tone; the graininess adds to the aged tone. The old man, plainly dressed, alone in the road in front of the palace offers a poignant scene. Well done! Thad
Beautiful work Edoardo! B&W is really perfect choise for this composition. A lonely man in a highly clean surroundings is very good to give a mood of loneliness. Light framing adds ageing effect to this work very nicely. Well done my friend.
Very poetic image. Normally, I am not a fan of light vignetting, but I think it works here with the feeling you are creating - both old-fashioned and ethereal.
