You would think no self-respecting fly would be caught dead like this. Apparently this fellow didn't get the memo that winter had arrived and decided to venture forth regardless of the circumstances. I know what you're thinking; oh, he just went down to the Fly Emporium and bought a few flies and staged the whole scene. And I would have, but I can't get credit at the shop following the cricket incident of '08.

I found this guy kicking it back and chilling out earlier today. Exactly how he came to be out in the freezing cold we've been experiencing of late is a mystery as he wasn't there yesterday. So 60-70 shots later I escape back into the warmth of the house and tossed it into the old editing machine.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Obviouslty he entered a "No Fly Zone," Wendell. Talk about belly up. Maybe he had some of Rob's Johnny Walker.
Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry Interesting.

Wow, Wendell.

Yowser. Nearly perfect title, narrative and posting.

This must be one of your first postings with your new macro lens. Fantastic detail and clarity. I wish I could make out what kind of surface the fly in lying on. It might be snow, but I can't tell for sure. My only complaint, and I'm only saying this to irritate you, is that you should have cloned out the speck of dirt in the foreground. Nicely composed shot as well.

Dorothy

P.S. I did read in the local paper about the cricket incident back in '08. After all, they are crickets and not suppositories.

I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens.

Excellent capture Wendell! Chances are he was hiding someplace that got warm and ventured out. Could be if you brought him indoors he would warm up and start flying. Of course then you'd have to swat him. They seem to survive the cold quite well.

Top score for originality, the detail and sharpness and exposure control didn't hurt either. I laughed as soon as this appeared in the VB, so totally out of left field - a fly on ice - never would have thought of it. He's just chillin' out, maybe he flew into a snowflake and it knocked him unconscious.

Very clever as usual Wendell - can't imagine how he ended up on the snow.

Maybe his back was really hot and he had to cool it down?? He wanted to chill out a little?? Anti fly artillery camouflaged close by? I have no idea why he decided to drop in dead on you like that! Pretty rude of him to do so! But it got you a great picture!

Wendell;
Perhaps this was the last fly to be hit out of Wrigley Field by the Chicago Cubs player, O.Overal in 1907? Anywho....nice bit of fun and work on your photo..Well done!!
