This was photographed last summer on a hot, hazy July afternoon spent walking the trails of the park. There's a small gorge behind the bench with a rather steep embankment that I wouldn't want the pleasure of climbing unless I was being pursued by a ravenous pack of squirrels.

This is one of those two picture deals. A bit of stitching was required to join them together to get some depth and perspective in the photo. Then I did a little experimenting with a photo tutorial to give it a softer look. I'm not satisfied with the sky at all. I should go back and add a new layer and work it some more when I get the chance.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Wendell - I don't think I'd park my bottom on a bench that hangs over a gorge. But, I'd enjoy the hike on this path. Your comment about the sky is understood, though the lighting it offers to the woodland trail is so nice, further post-photo work might not produce the results you want. Perhaps some Viveza work on the two bright spots could dial down the brightness a little. All this stated, it is a well composed image with a soft tone that is very pleasing. Thad

A most appealing image that 'speaks' to the viewer - invites one in to the scene. I think I would kjeep waling though - the bench seems a little precarious :)
Looks a nice track to walk along and you have created great depth with the work done to create the final result.
I like the softer look very much.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . I am surprised there are not a couple of oval rings cut in the bench Wendell. I know it has to scare something out of one to sit there. Your stitching is impeccable. Looks like a good place to work off some pounds.

You're fortunate to have such a park close by, Wendell. I can't see where you did any stitching. Did you use ICE?
Well done, in any event.

I like the soft almost hazy look to this and the comp leading our eyes through the shot is also nicely done.

It's a lovely photo, but I'm afraid I'd never set out there. Good lighting and work on this.

Interesting comment that you're not satisfied with the sky, Wendell, because that's the only tolerable part of this sickening image. I say keep the sky and junk the rest. :-)

Seriously, this one's a beauty. I can see what you mean about the sky. There is a drop of overexposure way up there in the canopy, but what do you expect? I know...I know. Perfection every time out of the gate is the way you live you life.

The composition is just about perfect, I love all of the colors, the contrasts are fantastic. You've created quite a mood piece here. If I tried this shot, I'd have lightened the left side way too much because I simply can't stand having any portion of shot that is not brightly lit. I also would have oversaturated the greens and added my signature noise. Stunning work. You're starting to scare me. Are you sure you took this shot? I have this picture in my mind of you running from a ravenous pack of squirrels, tripping over one of those logs left behind by the woodchucks and accidentally clicking the shutter button just as you went over the cliff. Glad you survived the fall. And a hearty "hip hip hurray" to Wendell or some such crap. A solid 8 out of 10 from me.

Speaking of ravenous packs of squirrels, We have them pretty bad out here too! They carry acorn slingshots that really hurt! I love the look of this trail. Your shot makes me want to explore it! Only if there are no ravenous packs of squirrels!
Great shot

Ravenous pack of squirrels?!! That must be scarry. Would you climb it, if I lend my bike (hopefully I can take a photo of you running for life on my bike chased by the squirrels)? What say?

Good shot of the trail Wendell, stop worrying too much about the sky, the picture looks good even without the sky (crop it off)
