Sorry to disappoint you, Wendell, but I'm having a tough time finding much to complain about (I mean critique) in this posting. I can tell that you're tired or uninspired because I didn't even smile at your narrative. The humor must be very dry because I'm getting thirsty just reading it. Some blackberry juice would taste great right now.
All things technical seem to be right on - depth of field, color, focus and clarity. I like the drop of vignetting in the shot. Helps to give it even more depth. I've never taken a flower shot half this good, but it just wouldn't feel right if I didn't come up with some hopeless nitpicking. At first I thought there might be some noise in the background, but I realized that it's micro-pitting of my monitor from using a mixture of ammonia and A-Jax and my belt sander.
I would be proud if I had posted this, but I'll rattle off three things that are insignificant issues. If 100 is perfect, you have 3 demerits for a final score of 97.
1) The red brown branch traversing the shot is distracting. 2) I have been told that centering the subject is the last best alternative for composition. 3) You cut off a billionth of an inch on the petal at the bottom.

P.S. Have you ever thought of using one of those soft filters that Kathy (trixxie17) has mentioned?
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
Well it looks like you will be dipping your greedy little paw in to the thorn bush soon lol.Great looking close up macro photography and nice focus, plus detail is sharp too. There are some lovely colours in this shot and by the look of all the flowers there will be lots of pies on the way.
