Meet Mr. Pearl Merton Lowther. An Oxford man, though you wouldn't know it by the tie he wears. A machinist by trade, Mr. Lowther worked for a good many years for the C.N.R. - Canadian National Railway, in the roundhouse that at one time graced this end of town when rail was king.

This is a three shot exposure, so I hope that explains away the ghostliness and discolourations. The sun is setting in the west casting a strong light on the scene. But if you consider that Mr. Lowther is just getting off work and headed home it makes sense to have shot it at this time of day. Though chances were that back in the day he'd be lucky to getting home before darkness falls.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Evidently he took the train whistle with him when he quit, Wendell. He looks quite happy in this wonderful looking neighborhood. I think your photo turned out really well for the adverse conditions you had.
This is for Pearl Merton.

Hi, Wendell...

I looked up "three shot exposure" and found that it is a technique used by professional photographers. Now I know how you can afford all that fancy equipment.

I liked your narrative since I had never heard of Mr. Lowther or the C.N.R. I was fascinated to learn that the sun sets in the west. I guess you can't believe everything you read in the National Enquirer. They said that Armageddon was happening in mid-July because the earth's rotation was in the process of reversing.

Other than the blue discoloration on the base of the statue, you managed a good shot under horrendous conditions. I keep hearing about all these filters I should be buying to take care of potential lighting problems. Then again it might cost less just to return at a different time. I don't think Mr. Lowther is going anywhere soon.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
