You can blame Roger for this photo. He asked a simple question about lenses making grinding noise so I had to see if they did or didn't. This is the photo I snapped while investigating the question. By luck or happenstance the camera settings allowed me to capture this scene as is with no fiddling of the dials and extensive re-shoots. A little cropping later and I called it a day.

And, to answer his question: it's not normal for a lens to make a grinding noise. Or at least none of mine make any unnecessary noises. Though the operator has been known to utter moans, groans and curses, but so far no weeping noises, when using the camera. But I assume those are normal and can be discounted as having an adverse affect on the camera.

Enjoy and your comments welcomed.

Wendell, the moodiness dominates this composition. I like it very much.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

Very nice on this - the red and candlelight work well together.

Hey, Wendell, I'm not sure what sand mixed in with the innards of my lenses has to do with your shot; but I appreciate the publicity since I'm about to make my dream come true of becoming a Hollywood starlet. Any publicity or recognition is good at this point in my career. I have a small part in a new movie called "Big 'Uns and Little 'Uns", but I'm not sure what part I'm playing yet.

As for your posting pretty good job considering that this is practically right out of the camera. Nicely focused, grand colors, interesting silhouettes. However, your composition is crazier than I am. Why would you pick a vertical format and then fill the bottom and top equally with negative space? I downloaded the shot and played with the cropping. Both a square or horizontal format worked better.

Wendell - The lighting is lovely, the patterns from the lace backlit by the candles very pretty. Thad
