Wow, Wendell, with that noise in the background, this scared the bejesus out of me. Much more graphic than the scene in "Psycho". Did you use a knife or a camera? Just kidding.
Because I have my PhD in both horticulture and floriculture, a masters in botany and make my living as a floral arranger, I know that your "foofy", as the layman calls it, is indeed a rosium darkishredicus or perhaps a dandelion or magnolia or maybe poison ivy.
Since you use Photoshop, I'm not sure how you edit your work. If you were doing this in PhotoFiltre, my guess is that you isolated the flower and then used some negative gamma on the background. Since you probably isolated the flower, aka my hypothesis or theory, why didn't you use a noise reducer on the background?
Water droplets always seem to add a fine touch to a flower shot. Excellent composition. In keeping with your work, I would not call this "sharply focused". Nonetheless, it's still a better "foofy" shot than anything I've ever posted.
The color is deep, and beautiful, and the water drops are a added bonus, I do see some noise in this. Wendell I like details in this one as well. Tigs♥ =^..^=
Excellent composition and balance with this, Wendell. I don't see any problem with the tiny amount of Grain/Noise in the black area unless you're going to print it. More a choice than a problem with this image.
