This is the monument to the heroes of the Peninsular War, that war united portuguese, spaniards and English against the French armies of Napoleon in the Iberian Peninsula from 1808 to 1814. This pedestal is 45 meters high and is surrounded by four groups os sculptures representing scenes of war every scene got female representation. The woman you can see in the front with a flag in one hand and a sowrd in another is the Victory. On the top is a Lion ( representing the victory of the 3 united armies) killing an Eagle ( represeting the Napoleon armies), Napoleon was defeated after a brilliant resistence of the Oporto that gain the nickmane of the "cidade invicta" (unbeaten city). This monument is in the center of the Square Mouzinho de Albuquerque right in front of The House of music. Thanks everyone to have patience for my stories.

I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is. Albert Camus ........ My Gallery
