The official name of this place is Gomes Teixeira Square, but all the people know this square by the nickname of Lions Square. The nickname came from the fountain in the square that is composed by four lions with wings.

I do not know what Gomes Teixeira means, but Lion Square sounds very suitable for this square. It must be very refreshing in summer to have such a great fountain at hand since it can get very hot in Portugal, thanks for the posting.
