I had such a hard time with adjusting the levels of the background layers on this. I'm still not sure about the brightness of the background, although I'm finally happy with structure of it. What do you think?

I think it's fantastic! It looks like a bird house and all parts are feathery, reminiscent of birds. It is a little dark, but not too dark. The background just adds to the sense of mysteriousness about it.

I personally think your background seriously rocks ! The only thing I might've done is brightened up your main subject a bit, but that's just me.

with a black backdrop on my widescreen monitors it's indescribably good. It just seems to creep up on you and it becomes the brightest spot on the screen. It's a 10 from me in the voting booth and right into my fractal faves file. This is superbly done.
