Working on improving my black and white conversions. New for me but I'll get better. I may use this for the Emptiness submission depending on how it is received.

Update. going to reshoot to fix exposure issues and to just get a better feel. Probably will tighten up the framing too. Thanks all for advice - I know there is a good picture here somewhere.

Mike, I see you have visited casechaser's palatial estate. lol.

I like the "emptiness" of the composition brought on with the black and white. Best wishes in the contest. ~~ John

Some more creative food for thought for you, Mike..

One of the best (succinct, with accompanying screenshots from Photoshop) articles I've read, with respect to the various methods of converting a colour image to that of B & W:

"Digital Color To B&W; Five Top Ways To Convert To Gray" ... courtesy of Shutterbug.com.

Your image here?

Good good candidate, given the subject matter itself and then that of the varying textures that are brought out nicely in the conversion.

Range of tonalities is.. good.

Caveats?

Not entirely sure, however, seems like the original might have some exposure issues.

Suggestion?

If available to you, go and back and re-shoot outside of mid-daylight hours. (Don't forget to use your camera's auto-bracketing feature/option.) Looking for less contrasty lighting conditions, in short.

As always, that nonsense of mine aside.. nice work, sincerely.

Think both, you.. and us, your viewers ... are going to appreciate your efforts behind the lens on the note of B & W imagery. Me luvs B & W photography. :o)

Well sir, if it's got a dish and a big fridge stocked with Bud, I'd be mighty interested, since the old woman asked..or told me...ta hit the road. I told her more than once, I wasn't puttin' up with all them girly soap shows she's a watchin' all day. So...here I am without a roof, and a lazy boy or nothin'. That's life!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . .
