I came across this ancient contraption a few weeks ago while working in someones house.It's a very old -about 100 years- instant hot water heater located in their basement.Inside the two doors is a large copper coil in a spiral that serves as the water reservoir and the bottom chamber is where it's heated with gas. I had to have a picture of this unique antique:) thanks for taking a look:)

Great looking capture and stunning detail light and bronze colours and I love see these old Edwardian looking items of history.I love how you see the old with the new like the pipe work like the shut of valve.Great capture and thanks for sharing.

It's fully functional and the owner was able to get parts....about 20 years ago but still working:)

Wow! No spider webs either!...lol...I wondered when they started making hot water heaters. This definitely looks like one of the first! Great find and wonderful shot Bruce!!! Hope you're doing okay :-)

A very early and ornate gas-fired rapid-delivery (hence the copper coils in the heat exchanger section) Ruud water heater - still in operation...These came before the standing hot water tank type, and are actually what the more modern "on-demand" (tankless) design and function hot water systems are based on...Sometimes, it's a good thing when one has to go "back to basics" for moden innovation...
