Sue and I visited here a few years ago. The controversy over the flooding of the canyon will not be addressed here, just the fact that what I see is beautiful:):) Thanks for your comments nonetheless:)

Bruce,
As a non-American, I didn't understood your narrative well because I didn't had the relevant background information. Your title gave me a clue to help me along the way and I found THIS.
It clarifies your very nice and interesting picture and now I enjoy even more of what you show us, Buddy!

It is quite lovely, Bruce, and I can see that the water is a little low, by about 3 or 4 feet. Looks like a place my wife and I would like to add to our kayaking list. I haven't yet checked out the link that C. has provided but have seen for years that when a recreation area is created, for boating, fishing, hiking, what have you, there is always going to be some controversy over its existence, and often all it takes is one person to have a problem with it. Unfortunately, those controversies nowadays often draw people who are there only to exploit it. Luckily for us we can always soothe our aching brains by coming here to Caedes, sharing what we love with our fellow artists (says the guy who just poo'ed on our collective calm ;o).

Happy Trails.

[Okay, I did a quick glance through and can agree with both sides of the issue. I recognize Albert Bierstadt's 1870 painting of the area, very beautiful, and the photos do justice to the place that Native Americans thoughtfully utilized for centuries, but I also caught the info about how it provides water to millions in San Fransisco Bay, some of the cleanest water anywhere.]
