I took a shot of these two at the Manatee viewing area at the Big Bend power plant south of Tampa last January. Sadly you can see the scar from a boat propeller on the mom's back. The Manatee's here come here naturally because of the warm water discharge from the power plant. The discharge is cleaner than the water we drink, so the Manatee's are not harmed.

Alex - Endangered, this is the only kind of shot to take at a manatee. And you got a nice one of mom and pup, taken from above. Thad

That's a pretty interesting shot. I have probably seen one at one of the zoos, but not completely sure. Poor mama must have had a few choice words for that boat the cut her.

Very nice and interesting image Alex. Think Mom was 'lucky' with this scar, as a collision with the prop or props is most of the times deadly.

It is sad that they have to endure such torment. You got a nice shot of them though Alex. Having the calf in it makes it more special.

They are so gentle and such a shame that boaters aren't more careful where Manatees are in the shallow waters. Great shot
