This is a Gopher tortoise. Endanged due to habitat loss, you can still spot them in highland areas that do not flood or stay wet. This was taken at Trout Creek park Oct 2005.

The tortoise and the hare come to mind. :) A good detailed capture of him. So much of our wildlife are endangered, and it's a real shame. tigs =^..^=
