During this time off work I headed out to some places I used to frequent many years ago. This is an area of the swamp near where I live. This is what's left of an old logging road from the 1920s. In the image with my mother (2003), you can see the pilings that are left and you can also see one of them in the recent photo taken yesterday. It was nice to get back there after all these years. Not much has changed really, but the wild pigs have dug up a lot of the area; sad. I also got stuck in quicksand, but realised it immediately, yanked my foot out and almost lost my boot! Very scary to be out in the middle of nowhere and feel the ground grab you and pull you under.

In 13 years a lot can happen in such uncared for areas. I suppose you at least carry your mobile phone with you when you wander in such areas If there are wild pigs there can also be alligators not far away.

Yes, good to be prepared. The scary thing when I got in the quicksand was that I wasn't just stuck, but could feel it pulling me in. I've had dreams through the years of things such as this happening.

Sweet photo of your mom. It's a shame there's been so much destruction.

Even when you had 4 cell phones with you, a SAR (Search And Rescue) 'chopper' wasn't able to help you when you would have been in troubles there, Alex. Think that danger for you pulls like iron to a magnet, ☺ .
I agree with Connie about the sweet photo of your late Mom!
