This is a Golden silk spider. I took this at Lettuce Lake back in October 2013. Despite their large size, they are real docile and not inclined to bite. I have let them walk on my arm several times even had one as a pet for a short time (I named it chiquita because some people call them banana spiders). They make large very strong webs that can trap small birds and anything else that is unfortunatel to get caught. I don't see them hardly at all anymore. It's been several years since I have seen them in force, and there were times when I accidently walked into their web and was somewhat cocooned! This is the same type of spider that I capture here.
