I realise this isn't the best capture, but it is a relic none the less. As you can see from the time stamp, it's June 12th 2002. That is my mum at the computer, probably ready to fall asleep waiting for the web page to load. This is the computer I profiled last year that I had built I used to call her "Cybermom" as she was pretty active online back in the day. Quick side note: My mum came of age during the punch card era, and she worked for a bit using the machines that punched the cards. She said it was the worst job ever! So when I got my first computer, she was dead set against using it! Then once she realised that you won't blow the thing up if you press the wrong button, and most importantly, there were no cards to insert she was hooked. Also, I can't tell, but I think that's IE 4.0 on the screen. Finally, that's a Steve Irwin stretchy doll atop the alligator. P.S.S That coffee mug is in my cupboard and still used often.

You are a sentimental person Alex and it shows in your words and deeds. That is a good thing.
You will always have ample memory for experiences like this.

Alex, this photograph of your beloved late mother, brings back some fond memories to me again. I've experienced the same things when my dear late wife got her first computer. It has cost her some time too to realize that the computer couldn't be blown up by pressing the wrong button. But, when her fear was over, she was able to do almost anything with it.
Thanks for sharing this shot!

My first computer which I bought in 1998 had 32 MB RAM. Other details I have forgotten. From your statements about your mother Alex, I can understand how much you loved her and what a loss it was for you when she was no more there.

I like the "statuettes" on top of the monitor. They look like they are getting ready to attack the computer user if a wrong button is pushed, even if the computer doesn't explode.
