Another shot taken whilst on a Geography Field Trip and im even going to go all teacher on you and tell you all about it! The reason so many schools visit this coastline is to do with the fantastic geology which also creates its unique landforms. The headland in the middle of the picture is made up of 3 bands of rock, limestone is closest to the sea and is very resistant to erosion as you can see by the line of rocks in the middle of the bay. It also creates the fantastic arch from my previous post. In the middle is a band of clay which is easily eroded by the sea and this is why you get the beautiful bays in front and behind the headland. It can also be identfied by the dipping, lower secion of the headland. Behind the clay is a band of chalk which is also resistant to erosion and forms the characteristic white cliffs that the English coastline is so well known for. So there you have, one geography lesson, in a nutshell!!
