This is my first ever attempt at night photography in the beautiful and historic city of Bath which i am lucky enough to reside in. In some places things are a little over exposed. I am yet to learn how to fix this in a night time setting. I will also be entering this in the water contest :) Comments and constructive advice always welcome.

Rachel, to take a good night shot isn't that easy. I was many times frustrated when, while doing some attempts, a car came passing by, so disturbing finally my image. If possible, I'm using a very stable tripod, a remote control, and for my camera a long shutter opening time (up till 30 seconds) to achieve the best possible result. The aperture number then is chosen automaticly by my camera (I increase the shutter opening time until I reach the highest aperture number). Please see THIS ONE to know where I'm talking about.

I've viewed your image at full screen size, and like to say that it's a very good shot. Hardly to believe that it's your first attempt. My compliments.

Wish you Good Luck in the contest with this fine entry.

Regards, Cornelius

It's a beauty, Rachel. I guess you can do no wrong. I've experimented with a few night time shot, but I rarely take my tripod with me. Cornelius is right about the stable tripod and a remote control. The best night time shot I ever got was 30 years ago. I stood on top of a bridge that crossed Interstate 5 where it met Interstate 405. We're talking about 12 to 14 lanes of traffic, on and off ramps and a setting sun. A beauty of an attempt, but I detect some very slight movement.

Thanks Rachel for inviting us into your bathroom. You certainly burn a lot of candles. Looks like that tub could hold the entire household if not the whole neighbourhood in one sitting.
Good work for your first time in Bath night time scene. Nice lighting of the scene and lovely colour tones in the shot. Nice details, textures and reflection. Try using different white balance settings for your shots to see how it affects the colours cast by the lighting.

The difference between a bad artist and a good one is: the bad artist seems to copy a great deal; the good one really does. ~William Blake
