An interesting minimalist idea. I think that it may work a little better with a strong side light casting an angled shadow ... maybe with pin stuck in the surface a. Just begging for B&W processing.

What this needs to be sitting on is a picture of a model (male or female), a calendar or anything related to it's use. Preferably, whatever is used should be at least slightly"Out of Focus". Also agree with casting the shadows to the side, instead of under the steel point.
Regardless, congratulations on thinking creative.
