The House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) is a medium-sized finch. Adults have a long brown tail and are a brown or dull-brown color across the back with some shading into deep grey on the wing feathers. Breast and belly feathers may be streaked. In most cases, adult males have a reddish color to their heads, necks and shoulders. This color sometimes extends to the stomach and down the back, between the wings. The male coloration varies in intensity with the seasons and is derived from the berries and fruits in its diet. As a result, the colors range from pale, straw yellow, to bright orange, to deep, intense red. Adult females have brown upperparts and streaked underparts. Feel free to read more RIGHT HERE .

Both this and your other post 'Melanerpes carolinus' are absolutely completely splendid. Such perfect clarity and stunningly beautiful colours.
Superb work.
Thanks for all the info too :) both are species I have never seen in reality - if I ever do I shall recognise them now.

Isn't it funny, the 'Latin' names are always a 'gobfull' to say!

What a lovely, Randy. Did you use 'zoom' or do you have a new lens? This is super.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Good one Randy, cute little expression on his face. Nice and clear too. The one I posted was a little dark cause the sun was behind him, are you following me around? At least we are driving Dunstickin nuts. Thank you for the info on this bird, I printed out.

I'm looking at it at the 16x12 right now, which allowed me to zoom in on it a little more and I just can't believe the quality. It's impeccable. You're now in the inner circle of bird shooters on this site. Just excellent work once again.
