Close-up of one of our favorite pond residents - a female green frog.
As can be seen from the photo, however, this little girl isn't solid green as her name would imply; the "green" frog may actually come in shades of brown, green, or a combination of the two.
Often mistaken for bullfrogs, the green frog can be easily distinguished from this similar looking species by the two little ridges that run along either side of their backs - ridges which the bullfrog lacks.
Genders can also be told apart by the size of the tympanum (eardrum) - males have a tympanum about twice the size of their eyes, while females have a tympanum of about the same size.
Excellent detail as well.
