Just look at how big that eye is! Glad I'm not a mouse. Nikon D5000, VR 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6G Focal Length: 300mm AF-A F/5.6 1/125s 0EV ISO1000 07:50pm-evening light [Didn't have the tripod, so juiced the ISO to increase shutter speed - suggestions?] [see also baby owl ]

Is he turning his head to hear you better? Again, wonderful photo of this bird who is clearly in the wild, not in a zoo or any kind of cage. Another good catch!

I'd just like to know how you got this clear a shot at 1000 ISO. I would have so much noise at that setting it would look like snow. I must be doing something wrong. This is fantastic.

Great shot, John! Just on time to take. Your Nikon D5000 have a great noise reduction system which is active above 800 ISO automatically, unless you change to manually off, like my D3000. This is great help on such situations like this.
