I have no clue what it is but it stands 3 feet high and has a 2" trunk at the base. Its been growing for about 3 years in the garden. It's probably tropical.

Sorta looks like the sprouting of a "Bird of Paradise" flower.

Nice picture John :) I would say it is almost certainly a type of Euphorbia, especially if it has a sticky white sap in the stems. I have a similar one, it sprouts up everywhere.
