...This morning, Nate, my remaining cat...passed away, also of feline leukemia...
Within a month after Bart, my younger cat had passed of the same disease, I had taken Nate in to the same vet for additional tests, and it was confirmed that he was a carrier, possibly having obtained it from his mother at kittenhood, being that neither Nate nor Bart ventured out of doors, whatsoever...The vet told me that since Bart had gotten the FeLV strand from Nate, he would have to be the only cat in the house from that point on (There were no problems with that, being that when Bart was still around, Nate would TOLERATE him, at best), and that there was no guarantee Nate wouldn't eventually succumb himself, so I had been prepared for the worst, if it took place...
I would love to get another Siamese kitten and raise it, but my lease will be up soon, and I will be forced to move into either a rooming house or residential hotel (probably the latter), because I just can't afford an apartment of my own (they're quite pricey in NJ, even a studio or efficiency, and most carry hefty pet deposits as well as monthly pet fees tagged onto the rent), and I cannot trust the integrity of roommates, so it is unclear when I will ever have a pet, if at all...Maybe I'll be in a better financial state a few years in the future, and my outlook will change, but with the uncertainty and prospected longevity of this unstable economy right now, another cat has very much become a luxury I can no longer afford...
I still have a bird (cockatiel) however, for the time being...My sister will take her in, even if I cannot at wherever I may be going...
Rest in peace, old friend...
