Great capture of this unique and rather creepy bug! I do know that there are Cicada Wasps that burrow in the ground and will leave their nests to hunt these and take them back to their nests. . ♪ ♫ :)sandi♪ =^..^=
Made a mistake in my previous comment. A 'cicade' (in Dutch) is an insect who hide itself in its own made froth. A 'cicada' (in English) is called in Dutch 'krekel', is much bigger than a 'cicade' and makes the typical 'chirping' sound. Hope this explanation makes clear my previous comment. Have however never seen a cicada larvae shell, so this is an amazing image to me Jimbob.

A good macro, Jimbo. You should save those skins. When you get enough you can have 'em with a beer or two. Tasty! kinda like pork skins. Think your camera might have a but in it???.
Cool post.
Great macro shot again Jim...I swear it reminds me of a Locust shell....but we have a lot of them down here. Can here them in the trees in August when the heat gets really bad.
