While up at Lake Erie yesterday, we were visited by four young skunks. They were running around in the rocks, and coming out to where we were sitting, totally unafraid of the people. They came right up to our feet looking for food. Some of the other people around fed them, and some people took off scared to death. It was fun watching them, the skunks AND the people.

Thanks for the comments, friends.

And what do you smell like today? Hahaha... At least that little tail is not held up high in the air in the capture! Around here we smell them before we see them. Great shot, and love those little beady black eyes.

Jimbob - Cute little stinker! Obviously, they have adapted to people and have no fear of them. Thus, the likelihood of getting their odoriferous spray is minimal. I'm not sure that I would run that risk, and would likely have been a source of humor for you as I left the area! Many years ago, while camping, I was walking a trail at night, when, each oblivious to the other, a mother skink and her four babies walked across the path right before me. I stopped, mid stride, and stood still, on one foot, holding the other above them until they passed, when I placed my foot down where they had crossed, continuing on my way. Thad

Good shot Jim. I was once told that the younger skunks did not have the ability to spray just yet. Found that to be false one time when my son and his friend found five young skunks out back of the barn! They could not spray far but they could indeed spray!

I would be one of those not staying around to feed these odorous beings. What do they eat - beans? Nah, I will avoid them at nearly any cost.

Hi Jim!

Very fluffy animal, even so they can stink a lot... Here in Brazil we have their cousins (lol), the possums, and they are ugly with the naked tail like rats, but this one you brought the photo is so fluffy! It must be really funny to observe the reaction of the people, nice post!

Nice shot Pepe La Pew. I don't think even buzzards bother them. They are quite easy on the eyes but hard on the nose. I try to keep them out of earshot.
Good post.
