I now believe that this is an Accipiter or a Cooper's Hawk, and not a Merlin Falcon. Whatever it is, it's a handsome bird. Maybe someone here knows for sure what it is.

Hey Jim, I don't think it's a coopers hawk, but I could be wrong. But I do know its a wonderful capture through glass.

I agree with Sandi it's not a cooper hawk or a red tailed hawk but that's as far as my hawk knowledge goes - whatever you did it well.

Jim, I agree with Garrett I think this is a coopers hawk. They prey on birds and sometimes drown them in water before eating them. This is one fantastic capture, great piece of photography.
