The reason that I call this series "Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls" is that the terrain in any type of weather conditions can be quite hazardous and most waterfalls are off the beaten path. Even though it looks like the ice age in this photo the temperature wasn’t that bad this past Saturday when I took this one at "Kaaterskill Falls" Catskill Mountains N.Y, I did some post work on this combining a B/W version of the original to the over saturated original to take some blue color out of the ice.

Wow, they are impressive. I like your idea of how to get the blues out. It must have been somewhat treacherous climbing up here in these weather conditions. Is gets slippery when wet, so ice and snow must make it a really difficult climb. Nice work on this one, Jim. The shadows help show how steep this is.

You are exactly right about the trail conditions (if there even is a trail) going to most waterfalls. The best times to shoot them are often in the worst weather for hiking! If you have photoshop, you could experiment with the selective colors tool to tone down the blue colors pretty easily.
