We were on a ferry crossing The Mississippi River in Louisiana when this incredible vessel came by . The Pelican State was christened May 30, 2009 and is named after the state of Louisiana . The double hulled ship is 600 feet long has a cargo capacity of 331,000 barrels and is used to carry petroleum . It is part of the Jones Act tankers built for U.S. Shipping Partners at NASSCO in San Diego . It operates between the U.S. Gulf and the East Coast for Marathon Oil .

Delicious color, could it get any greener? I think not. I would imagine theres a whole lotta shakin goin on after that big boy passed the ferry. Did you have your life jacket on?

Love the No Smoking sign.

Good capture.

I like the green and I think it looks really well together with the dark blue of the old Mississippi.

Nice capture of the ship in its full length Marsha. It looks very good with the sun shining on the hull.

Enjoyed this shot. Very impressive ship and I do like the green color and no smoking sign. Perhaps a coat of green paint is all it takes to make things environmentally safe?
