The Potawatomi Native Americans were the early settlers of what is known today as The Kankakee River basin . They called it " Ti-yar-ac-ke " meaning " Wonderful Land." In an on going battle with The Iroquois Tribe from the east they used the marsh as a refuge . Today the 133 mile long river is quite popular for canoeing , fishing , hunting and bird watching. The 4,000 acre Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area located in Indiana consist of riparian woodlands, marsh , wetlands and farm land. It is home to a wide variety of birds, including The Bald Eagle, Hawks , Wild Turkey's , Cranes ,Ospreys, Ducks and Geese. As well as a large population of other wildlife including Deer, Beavers, Otters, Bobcats , Coyotes and Fox.

Enjoyed this lovely picture as well the narrative. I guess the Potawatomi were up in Michigan as well. I can dimly remember doing a report in school on them eons ago. The reflection of the sky in the water is wonderful! Faved.

A beautiful scene well captured with an interesting narrative. My only criticism is it's a tad too dark for my monitor, but that's only a minor point.

It is a wonderful land indeed, Marsha, so as I can see in your gorgeous composition, the blue of the lake is stupendous!

Some people have Gurus, I have my camera. Through the cam lenses I have learnt to deeply perceive life, not only to see, but to look at all expressions of nature, becoming able to read the poetry of the flowers, receiving the embrace of the trees and flying above the clouds without wings! - Susie Sun

Excellent subject and splendidly composed. The blues are great. I suspect a heightened color contrast, by lightening the woods and warming their color, would also look interesting but there is beautiful drama in this capture as it is.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
