It is a Cowboy tradition on many ranches in the US to hang a cross from ones saddle . The belief is it protects you and your horse during the days work.

Love those natural tones and the shadow of the late day sun.

And don't forget the leather, both living and otherwise, good'un

Sharp image Marsha - never seen that anywhere else. The cross is well made and the horseshoe on it gives added protection.

A wise and pragmatic habit, Marsha. If it isn't helpful, it doesn't hurt either.

Fine capture!

I love this Marsha! It seems as though we all have little beliefs to comfort us. This reminds me of the bike bell that my husband and other bike riders like to put on their Harley's and other road bikes to protect them from evil road spirits. The cross is beautiful.

Wonderful picture and comments. Had no idea this was going on, but not a surprise in retrospect. It's always a good idea to have something physical to remind us of that tie of love between us and God...we keep on losing it, and have to always begin again. Faved.

Really well done and interesting shot, Marsha. As much as I like the cross design, if I was still riding the range, I'd round off those points.
