Why do the pictures come out square when the lens is round??

Great stuff if it was taken with a 4mp Kodak. I like the comp too, with the leaves radiating out like spokes and the bug positioned across them. Not sure I'd like to come face to face with this guy though!

Now that's some beetle your captured. Judging by the size of the leaves, it must be 10 cm long from head to tail. Excellent work though.
