A small corner of the 60 acres of gardens surrounding Hampton Court Palace. Tennis was played on this site by Henry VIII from 1528.Legend has it that he heard of the execution of Queen Anne Boleyn as he played here. ~~~~"Here you may commonly see artisans, such as hatters, playing tennis for a crown, which is not often seen elsewhere, particularly on a working day." Erienne Pasquier commenting on a visit to England 1558.

Shining the garden in full flowering. Nicely symetric elaboration.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.

Recently I saw an article about the rebuilding of the gardens at Hampton Court. (Have no idea how old it was). The article included "before" and "during" pictures...and demonstrates what a lot of work has gone into them! The pic is lovely, nice angle, nice foreground...nice on my desktop!

It's all quite beautiful to behold, but just a bit too perfect for me. I like looking at it, but I perfer the casual and comforting ambiance of a Japanese garden. The shot is right on though. Thanks for that history. I never did like Henry VIII too well. Poor Anne!

A beauty of a shot, very well done indeed. I believe Henry the VIII played at Wimbledon in mixed doubles...not sure who his team mate was.

Gosh, why didn't you tell me you were stopping by my backyard. I would have come out and offered you a cuppa. Great shot you made, although with a little prior warning I could have gotten that back hedge trimmed up a bit.
