The ancient Elephant Rocks that sprout from the rolling hills in the Waitaki Valley of the South Island of New Zealand became Aslan's Camp in The Chronicles of Narnia in 2004. These outcrops of limestone were originally limey sands accumulated in waters 75-100 deep in Oligocene times, approx 25 million years ago, which hardened to limestone. Uplift within the past few million years brought the limestone to the surface where it has been sculpted into these shapes by wind and rain. The site is part of the Vanished World Heritage Trail. The late afternoon sun today meant getting a shot not overpowered by shadows was difficult. .. .Panasonic DMC-FZ7.. Thank you for taking a look.Any comments are most welcome and always appreciated.

Interesting view and interesting explanation, Lyn. I remember seeing a video in Wellington where they showed how New Zealand had "moved" over millions of years to its present position. Hope the country remains pollution free for all time to come!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

I had to have a look on this too, after viewing the #2.
It really reminds one of elephants... It looks like the texture of the grass is kind of repeated an the rocks, although they are not covered with it? Anyway, the landscape is fascinating, and the image gives a good impression of it.

Tell me how you got in, please! I don't have a wardrobe or any pictures of the Dawn Treader! :P
I like the colours, though. I'm not at all familiar with NZ but is this by any chance near Mairangi Bay?
Thanks for sharing!
