Today I discovered I have a Sepia and a Black & White setting on my camera!:) This is just an experiment in textures. Lots to learn with b/w and any advice you may have is welcome. . .Panasonic DMC-FZ7.. Thank you for taking a look.

Perfect image for B&W, this really allows you to concentrate on all the diffenernt textures. Excellent detail, Eve, a very good still life.

I think b&w gave this image more impact than color would have. It's an image that definitely tells a story. Great presentation.

Hi Lyn, haven't you started out really well. This is a great composition. You combined all the elements really well. I would brighten up the flower a little but apart from that this is a great shot. If you are experimenting try taking B&W photos with different filters. Generally use a red filter for high contrast shots and an orange filter when shooting portraits. The orange filter is very good for skin tones and can hide some of the skin imperfections. Have fun experimenting!!!

It looks great, Lyn. The contrast looks impressive and the different textures of the articles you have put together show off quite well.

Lovely still life. The B&W brings out the textures of the scene very well, but didn't your Mum ever tell you not to put your shoes on the bed? LOL

A friend of mine works in a camera store. The other day a very confused looking woman approached the counter and handed my friend a camera. She said "I took pictures, but I forgot to have film in the camera. Can you please get them out of the camera for me?"

It worked out well, what i think is important with black and white, that all tones between white and black must be there, wich is the case here.
Sometimes you see black and white images, that are only white-grey, with low contrast, do not like that, but this works.
A little tip, have a look at your photo editors, most of them have this setting to.
Then you can just shoot in color, and adjust to black and white in the editor, then you have both.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

I'm so pleased to see that you actually tried this! The result is gorgeous. Your composition, focus, and lighting are superb, and the use of black and white allowed the textures and shapes of each item to really stand out. That's what black and white does best (in my opinion). It eliminates the distraction of color, and allows the shapes and textures to assume the lead in our images.

Discarded shoes and clothing are really effective at suggesting a background story behind an image. In this case all the elements suggest a recent return from church. Seeing them here on the chenille bedspread makes me think that their owner is about to walk into the frame after changing clothes on a warm Sunday afternoon, and set about the task of preparing for her day.

'm flattered that you would suggest that I was the inspiration for this. I suspect you would had produced this with or without my suggestion. Regardless, it's really professional.
