Built in 1882 of mud bricks, The Vulcan Hotel at St Bathans in Maniototo, Otago, New Zealand is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl,a barmaid who died of a broken heart in Room #1.Several years ago a television film crew claimed to have encountered the ghost. They were frightened, left St Bathans without finishing their filming – and never returned.
Pre the mid 1930's St Bathans was a thriving gold mining town of over 2000, but now has a population of less than 10 (+ one ghost). In its heyday there were 13 hotels to serve the thirsty miners of St Bathans.
You can have a drink or a meal here. You can also stay here - and make a special request for Room One if you are brave enough :)

Population of less than 10? No wonder that ghosts have the run of the place! With ear plugs and blindfolded sleep in Room No.1!

The place looks well kept, but the name might cause some hesitation. Such a clear, precise shot, Lyn. Did you stay?

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . I used to manage a Shakey's Pizza Parlor in California during the Gold Rush, well a long time ago anyway, and the ovens were made by Vulcan. I think I seen the girls ghost a time or two after sampling some of the domestic beer. :)
Wonderful post LE.

A wonderful narrative, LynEve, and a great shot of this old hotel. I love the colors and contrast. Nice composition, too.
Well done.
