A comment by Doug (snapshooter87)on THIS recent image made me stop and think how fortunate we are in this part of the world to have such deserted beaches with so few 'footprints' However on this day there were some quite big ones :) This is taken from almost the same spot as "Ripples' looking in the other direction.
The 4 mile long beach is popular with local race horse trainers at low tide.
The township of Waikouaiti is situated adjacent to State Highway One and is just a half hour drive from the ciry of Dunedin. In days gone by it was a much busier place -there was a whaling station in the 1830's and in the Gold Rush days of the 1850's Waikouaiti was a busy port.
