A woman and her dog survey some of the devastation inside the inner city Red Zone of Christchurch New Zealand 15 months after the deadly earthquake.
This was my first visit there since the February 22 2011 quake and I was totally disorientated in once familiar places now that recognisable landmarks have been demolished. There is a strange surreal atmosphere. Just the noise of earthmoving machinery where once there was the hustle and bustle of a busy city centre. video

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

It must be sad revisiting Christchurch after the awful earthquake. This is another image well suited to b/w, the sky looks particularly impressive.

I saw the shocking scenes on TV that time. Such a terrible experience for all in Christchurch. Good B/W shot Lyn.

You have captured those surreal and desolate qualities in this image, Lyn. I still drive by the tornado damaged areas around and see landscapes with no trees where there were once forests and new housing construction rising from the rubble of last June's disaster. I see hope though and know that in Christchurch and here, people have weathered a storm, both geological or meteorological and emotional. The human spirit is steadfast in the face of disaster. Poignant image.

The black and white brings to the image a more sombre mood reflecting very well the terrible events 15 months ago. As Tigger states - a very thought provoking image.
