Karitane on New Zealand's Otago Coast was the location of a pre-European Maori kaik (undefended village) European sealers and whalers arrived in the 1820s and a whaling station was established in 1837.
Population now is approx 350 and it is a popular holiday destination.I would happily increase the population by one more :)
