One of the joys of Spring is the heady scent of freesias. This is Freesia alba Burtonii and it is named for a Mrs Burton in whose garden in Nelson, New Zealand, it first appeared as wild chance sport of F. refracta alba in the 1930's. It has been a favourite in NZ gardens for a long time but is now almost impossible to find it in garden centres so I treasure the few clumps I have.
