This photo was taken my my son with his phone camera. It is the rare sight of about 20 icebergs in the Tasman Glacier Terminal Lake. As it was taken from a distance it is difficult to tell how massive they are - up to 50 metres high with 250 metres below the water. They broke away just a couple of days ago.
To view them there was quite a steep climb. In 30 degreeC heat I was miles behind my son and I had to give up with only about 5 more minutes climbing. We did not know about the icebergs - had I known I would have crawled on my knees to get some photos !
CLICK HERE to read more about the calving and there is a picture showing the intense blue of the ice which does not show on this photo.
I think I will have to go back before they melt!

Breathtaking capture, and with a phone camera? It must be a good quality phone. It's too bad you were not able to make the complete trip, at least next time you know what to expect

Always trust your son with your camera :) Wonderful shot considering it was a phone shot. Very impressive too.
