I had to 'slightly trespass' on the sunflower field to get this close up :) Most of the blooms were taller than me and there were a lot of bees buzzing about. This busy bee gives an idea of how large the flowers are.
Easy to see why they are called SUNflowers (botanical name is Helianthus annuus)
Each flower is actually a 'flowerhead' and the centre brown part is a cluster of individual florets formed in a spiral pattern, which eventually produces the seeds.
